Dr. Tarek El-Bialy is a tenured, full-time Professor of Orthodontics and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Alberta.
Dr. El-Bialy obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Science (MSc) in Orthodontics in 1987 and 1993, respectively, as well as his License of Law degree in 1994 from the University of Tanta in Egypt. He completed his Master’s Degree (MSc) in Oral Sciences in 2000 from the University of Illinois. In 2001, he also received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering and a Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics from the University of Illinois. In addition, he earned his Executive Master’s of Business and Administration (EMBA) at the University of Alberta in 2012.
In June of 2019, Dr. El-Bialy received a doctoral degree from the University of Bon in Germany. A significant part of his work was devoted to repairing orthodontically induced tooth resorption and biomechanics.
Dr. El-Bialy is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC), a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, and a Senior Research Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, 12 book chapters, and three books.
