Types of Braces

Considering which type of braces would be best for you? Our orthodontists in BC and Alberta can help you choose between traditional braces, lingual braces, translucent braces and more.

Conventional Metal Braces

Conventional Metal Braces

Conventional metal braces consist of metal brackets that are attached to the teeth with an adhesive and connected to each other by wire. With the help of periodic tightening every 4 to 6 weeks by your orthodontist, they apply steady pressure to gradually straighten your teeth and align your jaw.

Translucent (Ceramic) Braces

Translucent (Ceramic) Braces

Ceramic braces have brackets that are made of a tooth-coloured ceramic material, allowing them to blend with your teeth. This makes them appear translucent when worn. The overall look of ceramic braces is, therefore, more understated than that of regular braces with metal brackets.

Lingual Braces – Behind Teeth

Lingual Braces (Behind Teeth)

Lingual braces have the all the same components and efficacy that conventional braces do, but they’re fixed to the back — or lingual — side of the teeth, facing the tongue. Because they’re behind your teeth, they’re almost impossible to see when you speak, smile or laugh.

Coloured Braces

Coloured Braces

The tiny elastics (or bands) that go around the brackets of your braces come in a whole rainbow of colours. These elastics are changed during your adjustment appointments with your orthodontist every 4 to 6 weeks, so if you like, you can choose a new colour or combination of colours at each visit!

In-Ovation Mini Braces

In-Ovation Mini Braces

In-Ovation is a range of low-profile braces options that have an understated aesthetic due to the smaller-than-average brackets. In-Ovation braces require fewer visits to the orthodontist for checkups and adjustments because they are "self-ligating," meaning they tighten themselves.

Invisalign® – Clear Braces

Invisalign (Clear Aligners)

Invisalign clear plastic aligners are custom-made to fit your teeth. They straighten teeth just like braces do, but because of their clear plastic construction, they are difficult to see when worn.
